A. Blaze O.D. , F.A.A.O.

Dr. Blaze was born in Chicago, Illinois and raised in Anaheim. He
received his BS in Biological Sciences from California Lutheran University
in 1978 and was accepted to attend the Southern California College
of Optometry. He then pursued his research and development interests
at the Cornea and Contact Lens Research Unit, University of New South
Wales in Sydney, Australia. There he researched the effects of extended
wear soft lenses on cornea swelling and the dehydration rates of various
soft lens materials. Soon after graduation he joined Stephen Downs
OD and Coast Contact Lens Co. in 1982, as Optometric Clinical Director,
working on the FDA study for the approval of the Hydracon contact
lens.
In 1987 he purchased the clinical practice of Stephen Downs OD, founder
of Coast Contact Lens Co. He has focused his private practice on specialty
contact lenses and has continued to be involved in new product and
patient studies with Allergan, Alcon and Polymer Technologies. He
has been published in several professional journals and continues
to lecture at professional meetings.
In 1996 he worked part time with Summit Technologies, the first company
to introduce an FDA approved excimer laser for refractive eye surgery.
He was involved with the pre- and post-op care in the early phases
of the laser surgery development. He has been successfully managing
laser surgery patients with the best laser centers and surgeons in
Orange County since the introduction of the excimer laser.
Dr. Blaze enjoys surfing, softball and has recently picked up golfing.
He and his wife Rhonda also like to travel and backpack together.
